Upload YouTube Videos and Audio to NotebookLM: Google's AI Tool Expands Capabilities

Google's NotebookLM, an AI-powered summarization tool, now supports YouTube videos and audio file uploads, broadening its scope for education and research. Powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro, the virtual assistant can now handle a wide variety of file types, including Google Docs, PDFs, text files, Google Slides, and web pages, in addition to YouTube URLs and audio. This new feature opens the door for users to upload and analyze lecture recordings, informative YouTube content, and group discussions, making NotebookLM even more versatile.

A major plus for users is that Google ensures all uploaded content is stored securely and is not used for AI training, maintaining privacy and data protection.

Originally launched in the summer of 2023, NotebookLM received a major upgrade in June 2024, when it was integrated with Gemini 1.5 Pro. With the update, the platform expanded to over 200 countries and territories, giving global users access to this powerful summarization tool. Another exciting feature added recently is Audio Overview, where two AI hosts summarize your material while engaging in light "banter." Users can even share these Audio Overviews with others via a public URL, making it easier to collaborate and exchange information.

Google’s NotebookLM addresses the growing demand for faster information digestion, especially with the rise of long-form YouTube content. The ability to generate concise, AI-powered summaries from various content sources saves time for researchers, students, and professionals alike.
